ASTWOOD Bank did their Birmingham League Division Three prospects a power of good after they overwhelmed rivals Worcester Nomads by bowling them out for just 62 runs.

Newly promoted Nomads perished in the face of 21.4 hostile overs as Astwood Bank's bowling attack put then to the sword.

Nomads opening bat Trevor Keen made 24 but there was precious little else on offer as none of his team mates could muster double figures.

All the Astwood Bank bowlers made an impact, Andrzej Jagielski grabbing three for eight off 6 overs while Dan Taylor mopped up the innings with three for seven from 4.4 overs.

Further wickets fell to Mike Desmond two for 18, Tom Harris one for 15 and Ryan Blakemore who took one for 14.

The Bank then made light or their reply as they raced to a winning 66 for one in the space of just 14 overs to register an almighty nine wicket win.

Skipper Steve Adshead led the charge by scoring 29 off 34 balls before Alex Robinson with 13 not out and Tim Pedley on 15 not out, saw the side home.

Bank chairman John Alexander revealed: "We've had some new covers which were installed on the Friday before the game which added a bit more heat to the pitch.

"But the umpires claimed the pitch was much more difficult to bat on in the second innings!

"We didn't start playing until 3pm when the match was reduced to a 30 overs contest. But Nomads came out to bat like it was a T20 game. They were a bit cavalier and soon lost a few wickets and couldn't recover. In fact their innings never got going at all.

"With such a small target to chase, the game was effectively over.

"The pitch itself was in pretty good nick and the umpires confirmed there was nothing remarkable in the square."

Astwood Bank Seconds stay second from bottom in Premier Two after suffering a 19 run reverse against Shifnal.

Joe Chadwick cracked 65 in a Shifnal total of 180 for nine from 41 overs, while David Sewell excelled with the ball by taking six for 41.

Astwood Bank always looked to be falling short in reply until wicketkeeper Paul Daws led some lower order defiance.

Having seemed doomed at 132 for nine, Daws triggered a late rearguard action as the Bank began creeping towards their target.

They'd reached 161 when Daws ran out of partners after being left stranded on 28 not out.

Steve Taylor with three for 18 and Iain Mills who took three for 30 causing much of the damage for Shifnal.

Astwood Bank bid to make it three straight wins this Saturday when they travel to face Stafford side Milford Hall.

Prior to that, Astwood Bank will be unveiling their refurbished clubhouse on Friday night from 7-30pm.
