ALVECHURCH secured a memorable double by adding the league cup to their Midland Premier League title.

A brace from Josh March in Monday night's final at Walsall's Banks's Stadium handed the Church a 2-1 win over Hinckley.

March struck in the 62nd minute before adding a second in the 73rd to make sure his side came out on top.

It means Ian Long's men emulate Hereford's achievement last term and became only the fourth club to complete the league and cup double since 1994.

Long said: "It's great to achieve what we have after the disappointment of missing out last season.

"It's amazing and credit has to go to the players. They put their bodies on the line each week, train religiously, go to work with slit eyes and dislocated shoulders. They have been rewarded for all their hard work and commitment.

"We have a great squad here with good strength in depth and that has shown with a strong end to the season."

On the final, he added: "It was a good game and we did well until the final third.

"Our play broke down around their box as they got men behind the ball and were hard to break down.

"It was vital we got the first goal as it meant they had to come out.

"Jamie Willetts and Andy Parsons were superb at the back and though we conceded late on when we had one eye on the clock and dropped too deep, they have dealt with everything thrown at them."

Alvechurch will now meet Wednesfield in the final of the JW Hunt Cup at Molineux on Tuesday, May 23 as they look for a trophy treble to end the campaign.

Long is set to make a host of changes to his side with the likes of Reece Shilvock, Ryan Edmunds and Josh McKenzie in line to feature next week.

Meanwhile, Church have agreed terms with former Kidderminster Harriers player Ash Carter for next season as well as agreeing a deal to keep goalkeeper Paul Evans at the club.
