MANAGER Julian Workman had no qualms with Redditch Borough’s performance in the defeat that all but ended their push for a top-two finish.

Borough created several decent openings without reward in a 2-0 home defeat to Smithswood Firs on Saturday to leave them four points behind second-placed Alvis with two matches to play.

Alvis had given Redditch hope by drawing with Smithswood and then losing to at home to Earlswood but Saturday’s 4-0 success over Fairfield looks to have cemented their berth.

The Coventry-based outfit went to Feckenham on Tuesday knowing a win there or at Knowle on Saturday would see off Borough ahead of the Bank Holiday Monday showdown between the rivals at Littleton (3pm).

But Workman insists nothing will change about his side’s approach with a home fixture against Sutton United (at Fairfield Villa, 3pm) next on the agenda.

He said: “It was a decent performance against Smithswood. The first goal was a mistake and we were unfortunate with the second because it was offside by at least five yards.

“We knew it would be tough, it always has been in matches against them and I could not fault the lads. How could I after nine league wins in a row before that?

“We had several good chances that would have gone in on another day. Now it is about making sure we maintain our form, we still have every reason to feel confident and there is a lot to play for.

“We have earned our place in two cup finals and towards the top end of a new league.”
