ALVECHURCH boss Ian Long has promised they'll be no let-up from his players despite wrapping up the Midland League title this week with a 1-1 draw at Shawbury.

Josh March's 31st goal of the season ensured Alvechurch picked up the point they required be crowned as champions.

But hungry for success Long is now eager to complete a league and cup double and confirmed his squad would be back in for training next week, even though their league campaign comes to a close this Saturday when they play host to Rocester.

Church will be presented with the Midland League trophy on Saturday and Long has invited all supporters to turn out in force at Lye Meadow and join in the celebrations afterwards.

But Long stressed: "It would be nice to sign off on a high. We've lost six times in the league this season and I don't want to be adding to that total.

"I want us to put on a show for the supporters who have followed us so faithfully this season.

"We stumbled, rather than sprinted over the line and I think that was partly down to nerves.

"But we also found that sides were prepared to roll their sleeves up and raise their game when they played us."

Church will be back in action next Tuesday, May 2 when they face Sporting Khalsa in the J W Hunt Cup semi-final. The winners take on either Highgate United or Wednesfield in the final at Molineux later in the month.

Church then take on Leicester side St Andrews in the Midland League Cup Final on May 15 at Walsall FC.

Long paid tribute to his players and staff this week following their title success at Shawbury.

He revealed: "I had a real soaking after the game and finished up absolutely drenched - but I'm happy to give the players that one."

"But without the contribution made by my assistant Richard Colwell, Chris Walwyn, Keith Rostill and Mark Jones, we wouldn't have achieved what we have."
