ALVECHURCH boss Ian Long insists he should be sacked if his side fail to win the Midland League Premier Division title this season.

The Church require just one more point to make sure of being crowned champions from their final two games against Shawbury United and Rocester.

It follows an Easter weekend where the title race was prolonged when Church lost 2-0 at second placed Coleshill Town but then returned to winning ways with a 2-1 success over Boldmere St Michaels.

Those results leave Church six points clear of Coleshill, but the men from Lye Meadow could still be overtaken on goal difference if they lose their remaining fixtures.

Long was left in no doubt and claimed: "We need to get over the line as quickly as possible. Dragging it out is doing nobody any good at the moment.

"I've told everyone I want an enjoyable coach journey back from Shawbury on Saturday, but it won't be easy.

"Shawbury are involved in a relegation battle and will be fighting for their lives and we need to be ready for that.

"I've got no complaints about the result against Coleshill, they were the better side and played their artificial pitch much better than we did.

"But we had one major decision go against us when Ryan Edmunds went clean through on goal and was pulled back just before he was about to pull the trigger.

"We have video evidence of Ryan's shirt being tugged but the referee ignored it and then booked Ryan for dissent!

"I was just pleased we got back into winning ways against Boldmere, who treated the game like a cup final.

"It seems that every side we face now are really digging in against us, that's why I want the title wrapped up sooner, rather than later."

The defeat against Coleshill came at a heavy price with both Dave Bellis and Ryan Winwood picking up injuries that could rule them out for the rest of the season.

On the plus side, leading marksman Josh March and Mike Wardle have returned to the fray following injury.

Church have also booked their place in the League Cup final following a 2-0 triumph at Highgate United last week, overturning a 1-0 deficit from the opening leg.

It leaves Church well and truly on target for the double as they face Leicester side St Andrews in the League Cup Final on Monday, May 15 at Walsall FC's Banks' Stadium.

Church also have a JW Hunt Cup semi-final to arrange with Sporting Khalsa but that too won't take place until May.
