HEAVILY depleted Alcester Town lost out 2-0 at top of the table Leicestershire based NKF Burbage in Midland League Division Three.

Player-manager Danny Janes was forced to call upon several reserve team players to face a Burbage side who are currently unbeaten in the league having won 20 of their 22 games so far.

Burbage were soon in front when following up to score from a corner and then increased the scoreline in the second half.

Alcester's problems began before the kick-off when they lost James Cund during the warm-up and before Danny Byford had to leave the fray within five minutes with a suspected broken bone in his foot.

Janes admitted: "Everything seemed to go against us from the moment we arrived but I was really proud of the players in terms of their desire and focus, I felt we were the better side in the first half but ran out of steam in the second."

Alcester only have one more league game remaining when they travel to second placed Montpellier on April 15.
