REDDITCH Borough boss Julian Workman was left purring after Billy Garvey broke Fairfield Villa’s stubborn resistance with a 25-yard rocket.

Garvey backed up his 64th-minute blast with a tidy finish after good work from Ollie Saunders and Liam Fullerton a quarter of an hour from time as Borough beat their fellow high-fliers 2-0.

It marked a fourth straight success and third consecutive clean sheet as Workman’s charges moved to within a point of third-placed Villa in Midland League Division Two.

And having netted 18 times during their impressive run, the manager has his sights set on finishing the season with a flourish.

“It was a really good display and Fairfield didn’t cause us any problems,” said Workman. “I can’t remember our keeper Ryan Young having a save to make.

“We played on the front foot and created some decent openings but credit to them, they dug in and made life difficult for us until Billy stepped up.

“In games like this, it often takes a moment of quality to get the ball rolling and his first was one of the best individual goals I’ve had the privilege to see this season.

“Once he set off down the flank, no one was going to stop him and the keeper had no chance. We carried on controlling the game from there and it was a very good win.

“We are in a rich vein of form at the moment. You get the feeling the lads really fancy themselves against anyone and we have every reason to believe the sky is the limit.”
