BOSS Julian Workman hailed Redditch Borough’s resolve after securing a “different type of win” at Bloxwich Town.

Borough had blasted their Midland League Division Two rivals 9-0 seven days prior to Saturday’s 1-0 victory at the Old Red Lion Ground.

Defender Garrath Hodgetts, who netted the opening two goals in the home whitewash, decided matters in the away fixture with his seventh goal of a fruitful campaign.

Despite heavy conditions, Redditch created their fair share of chances in Walsall but with only a slender lead to hold on to, Workman was pleased with a shut out that signalled a third straight success.

“We knew Bloxwich were to be a better side than the previous week’s result suggested and they were fired up to prove a point,” said Workman.

“With the pitch being heavy as well, it was a tough afternoon for us but the lads stood up to the task while still managing to play some decent stuff.

“We worked some good openings and created enough to score a couple more but with just one goal in it we had to be on our toes.

“That was probably the most pleasing aspect. There was no frustration in our play, we had to stay composed and strike the right balance which we did.

“It was a different type of win earned in a different way but the players still stuck to the basics we ask of them. We were very pleased.”

Borough return home on Saturday for a fourth-versus-third derby clash against Fairfield Villa (3pm).
