ALCESTER Town had to settle for a 1-1 draw following a local derby at Shipston Excelsior in Midland League Division Three.
It was Alcester who applied the early pressure before taking the lead when Matt Layton steered home a Sam Goodhall shot.
Shipston struck back and levelled from the penalty spot after a goalmouth cross was judged to have struck Alcester player-manager Danny Janes on the arm.
Alcester were unlucky not to regain the lead when Layton looked set to score a second goal after connecting with a Chambers cross, but Shipston shotstopper Alex Gretton pulled off a fine save.
The second half could have gone either way with Josh Moore and new signing Danny Byfield both going close for Alcester.
But it was Shipston who missed out the most when one of their players went round Alcester goalkeeper Rich Layton but luckily Danny Janes was on hand to save on the line.
Alcester have no fixture this Saturday.
