BOSS Darren Byfield says he will shake-up his Redditch United squad this week in the wake of their 8-1 drubbing at Frome Town.

The manager has promised both arrivals and departures as he looks to find the leadership qualities lacking among the Reds' ranks.

He said: "It could have been even more so I can't complain about the scoreline. It was embarrassing, painful and disappointing. It was all the negative emotions you can feel during a game.

"We simply crumbled. We need to man-up because we were like boys out there. We need people who are prepared to put a foot in and aren't scared to gets a few cuts and bruises trying to change the game for us.

"We only had one booking against Frome and that was my goalkeeper. That tells you everything you need to know. I'm not demanding my players pick up booking but they have to try and have an impact by getting their foot in to try and turn the game around.

"There will be a shake-up now. Two or three will be gone and I will be bringing two or three in. I have shown too much loyalty but it is clear we need changes.

"Our biggest issue is that we need leaders. I have known that for a while now but thought I could mentor the players we have here and turn them into what we needed, but that hasn't happened.

"We won't talk about it now, we will draw a line and move on from it. We have to show a reaction this Saturday."

Defenders Jordan Brown, Jordan Cullinane-Liburd and Jhai Dillon returned to feature at Frome after a trial with Grimsby Town last week.

Byfield, who has come under pressure from some sections of the United support follow the weekend loss, added: "I have to ask myself if potentially their heads were somewhere else. I have not seen strikers disrupt my defence like they did on Saturday.

"That is not the issue we lost the game but I don't think them going on trial helped us.

"They had good feed back overall and I think Marcus Bignot (Grimsby manager) is keen to have a look at them again, but it won't happen this season. They now need to concentrate on the job they need to do for Redditch."

Reds, who have dropped down to 10th in the Southern Premier League, will look to bounce back at home to 11th-placed Biggleswade Town this Saturday (3pm kick-off).
