REDDITCH United boss Darren Byfield has called for a reaction from his players following their disappointing defeat against St Neots Town last Saturday.

The Reds passed up the chance to make up ground on the Southern Premier League's play-off chasers when losing 4-1 at the Valley Stadium.

They netted in the first minute when Danico Johnson headed in a Luke Shearer cross but eventually found themselves chasing the game in the second half.

Byfield thinks his players became too complacent after bagging the early goal.

He said: "We started well, got an early goal and controlled the game for the first 20 minutes.

"I think the players thought it was going to be an easy afternoon against a lower placed side, but that wasn't the case.

"It doesn't work that way and you can't do that at this level. It's all a learning curve for the players.

"I now want to see a reaction from them in the FA Trophy this weekend because they let themselves and the fans down."

Redditch go to Ramsbottom United this Saturday for the second round clash.

Byfield added: "We are looking to go through and it's a game we're all looking forward to. I want to see that reaction from the players.

"We are keen to do well in the competition and want to keep progressing."

One positive development this week will see Redditch training regularly on the new 3G pitch, something that hasn't been happening during the early months of the season.

The boss thinks the move will help the players get used to the playing surface and hand them an advantage during games.

"We have now secured regular training slots at the ground," explained Byfield. "Being able to train at the ground is a big plus for us and will help me to get my ideas across.

"It will also mean the players can get used to the surface instead off only playing on it during matches."

There are no injury concerns ahead of the weekend's cup clash at Ramsbottom.
