ALCESTER Town came back from the dead to defeat Coventrians on penalties and book their place in League Cup semi-finals.

The Town looked down and out after they went 3-0 down in the first half before staging a stunning recovery.

Robbie Davies got the ball rolling when he robbed a Coventrians defender to pull a goal back.

Alcester then made it 3-2 just before half time when Isaiah Graham-Clare headed home a cross from debut boy Jack Gauntlett.

The scores were levelled when substitute Joe Shaw slammed home an inch perfect Sam Lakin cross.

Extra-time saw Alcester take command, but they couldn't convert their chances as the tie went down to a penalty shoot-out.

Goalkeeper Jack Turner saved his first two shots while Sam Goodhall and Joe Shaw converted for Alcester.

Turner then turned penalty taker but fluffed his lines to let Coventrians back in.

But a further penalty strike from Connor Poole made sure Alcester maintained the advantage before Turner turned to hero and saved a third penalty to put his side through.

Alcester manager Danny Janes said: "I always knew we could get back into the game as I didn't think the score was a true reflection of the game.

"We should have won the game in extra time but could not produce the final ball to kill them off."

Alcester Town return to Midland League Division Three action this Saturday with a trip to Barton United who are just below them in the table.
