ALCESTER Town held their nerve to win a penalty shoot-out at Aston based CPA FC before progressing into the next stage of the Birmingham County Vase.

The Town twice came from behind to level matters at 2-2 thanks to goals from Robbie Davies and substitute Leon Blundell.

Town then got on top during the closing stages and thought they'd hit the winner when Lewis Amos had a goal ruled out for offside.

Both sides scored their first three goals in the following shoot-out but it was Brendan Hicks who proved the hero when he converted the Town's fifth shot.

Player-manager Danny Janes said: "It was Brendan's first game back after damaging his ligaments in the opening game of the season".

The Town go in search of further cup glory this Saturday when they travel to Midland League Division One side Knowle in the Les James Trophy.

Town will be without the suspended trio of Luke Grubb, Mark Grogan and Kyle Xazier, but Janes himself returns following a one match ban along with Kevin Downey who has recovered from injury.
