REDDITCH boss Darren Byfield has made a double swoop as his side look to push on towards the head of the Southern Premier League.

United have welcomed striker Luke Shearer and defender Jordan Liburd back to the club.

Their return to the Valley adds to George Washbourne's arrival on-loan from Sutton Coldfield last week.

Byfield thinks the new additions are a big boost to the Reds as they look to build on last Saturday's 2-1 home win against Hayes and Yeading United.

He said: "Both players are top quality and with a bit of coaching and help can get even better.

"Jordan comes in from Stratford and has all the qualities to play at a higher level. He played a few times at right back for the club last season but I see him very much as a centre back.

"Luke has the one attribute that you can't coach, and that is pace. If they are both willing to listen and learn then they could be very good additions for us."

United roared out of the traps against Hayes and Yeading with Danico Johnson playing Max Loveridge down the right to cut back for Davis McDermott to guide the ball beyond Louis Wells after just 17 seconds.

Pressure from the visitors eventually told three minutes after the restart when Eli Bako upended Cole Brown on the edge of the box and James Harper’s floated free-kick was nodded in all too easily by Harold Joseph.

Redditch briefly wobbled but tightened their grip on proceedings once Reece Hewitt struck what proved to be the winner on 53 minutes.

"We played superb," added Byfield. "The pleasing thing was how we controlled the game.

"We are starting to find our identity and are playing some really nice football.

"It is important that we now put a run of games together and build some momentum. We are within touching distance of those above us yet we have hardly started yet."

Redditch will look to make it back-to-back wins when they go to Cambridge City this Saturday.

Midfielder Aspostolis Aspostolopoulos is set to return after suspension.
