REDDITCH United boss Darren Byfield is praying for some FA Cup carnage so he can finally land his top transfer targets.

Byfield admitted his bid to bolster Reds' squad ahead of back-to-back home games against high-flying Frome on Saturday (3pm) and second-placed Dunstable on Tuesday (7.45) had yet to bear fruit with would-be recruits still chasing glory in the world's oldest competition.

But with four specific targets on his hit list, the Valley Stadium manager is prepared to play the waiting game on the sidelines of the road to Wembley.

"We are still trying," said Byfield. "No one has come in yet but we do want to boost the squad in time for Saturday if we can.

"The hardest part is some of our targets are still taking part in FA Cup runs so hopefully, things won't go to plan for them because we need these players in.

"We have looked at a few in training but they have to be right and at the moment, I don't expect to make any changes unless one of our targets comes off.

"There are four specific players I want and it might take two months to get them in. That will give me the squad I want, it will be strong enough.

"We have other alternatives in mind but for now, we will be patient. As excited as I am about the lads we want to bring in, I have confidence in the squad we have.

"The players we want are doing well at the minute and that is a good sign so we just have to wait."

Meanwhile, Byfield wants repay the supporters who turned out in force for the disappointing curtain raiser on the club's new 3G surface – a 4-0 reverse to early Southern League Premier Division leaders Slough 10 days ago.

"We owe the fans," insisted the ex-Aston Villa striker. "They turned up to see their team play after so long and we let them down – and I include the players and myself in that.

"I promised it would not happen again and I intend to keep my word. We have two tough games in the next week and are steadily learning how teams play against us but we are ready. I cannot wait."
