BOSS Darren Byfield hauled in his Redditch United players to relive Saturday’s horror show and insisted: “It will not happen again.”

United’s eagerly-anticipated return to the Valley Stadium, delayed following the installation of a new 3G pitch, was spoiled by a 4-0 thumping at the hands of Slough.

And the new Reds manager, appointed in the summer, immediately ordered his troops to revisit the scene of the crime ahead of last night’s derby date at Leamington.

Byfield told the Advertiser: “Personally, I don’t think we’re doing enough to ask questions of opposing teams.

“We made three changes in attacking areas at half-time on Saturday because I wanted us to have a go at them.

“I was disappointed because the fans turned out and to be honest, we let them down. That was not just the players, I include myself in that.

“It will not happen again. They will not see a performance like that as long as I am in charge.

“We weren’t good enough. We did not provide options to get on the ball so I brought them in to watch the game and let them know where we have to be better.

“There is no point screaming at them, they need to see the mistakes to see where we are going wrong. It helps us.

“As hard as it was, everything happens for a reason. We will get ourselves together, regroup and we will be fine.”

Byfield, who confirmed he would be looking to bolster his ranks in the coming days, also called for patience while he finds the right blend.

“We will get better,” Byfield added. “This is a new team with new ideas and it will take time.

“The fans need to be patient. They might look at the fact we finished second last season but that was a completely different side, one that had been at the club for a long time.

“We do need players and if we don’t play at the weekend, it gives us a chance to bed in any new faces or get them signed.

“By the time we play Frome the following Saturday, I hope to have a few in. We definitely need help up front and in midfield."
