Coalville Town 2, Redditch United 1

Redditch’s wretched run of form in the FA Cup continued with defeat at Evo-Stik Northern Premier side Coalville.

And it means that the Reds have now gone nine games in the competition since winning against the now defunct Hinckley United way back in 2010.

Late drama almost saw Jazz Luckie force a replay but it wasn’t to be, a goalline clearance keeping Coalville’s slender lead in tact.

To be honest, Reds didn’t do enough to take the tie back to the Valley with home keeper Sean Bowles rarely in action.

That was certainly the case in the first half when United, playing into a gale force wind, failed to register a shot on target.

In contrast, Karl Demidh proved a tricky opponent and twice tested visiting keeper Brad Catlow with the pick of these seeing his pull off an excellent low save on 24 minutes.

Reece Hewitt finally tested Bowles ten minutes into the second period with a stinging 25-yard effort that had to be tipped over the bar.

Coalville’s opener came just five minutes later. A ball into the box was only half cleared and Callum Woodward pounced to send a low effort into the bottom right-hand corner.

It should have been 2-0 on 75 minutes when Massiah McDonald ran clear of the United defence only to be denied by Catlow who then recovered to keep out Woodward’s follow-up.

Reds substitue Javia Roberts skied an effort from 15 yards following good work from Danico Johnson before skipper Clayton McDonald headed his side level on 82 minutes from a corner.

But the visitors’ celebrations were cut short as Coalville regained the advantage just two minutes later, substitute Brad Munn glancing his header in at the near post from a well-worked corner.

Luckie’s last gasp effort came in the 95th minute but, after latching on to a corner, his shot was hoofed off the line by the impressive Woodward.
