REDDITCH romped to a convincing seven-wicket win over Bredon last Saturday to maintain their charge towards the Worcester County League Division Two title.

The result leaves Redditch 27 points clear of closest challengers Chaddesley Corbett with four games left to play, while local rivals Feckenham are a further three points adrift in third place.

Bredon posted 203-9 on a decent batting track after two overs were lost to rain.

But the result was never in doubt after Redditch openers Rizwan Mohammed Choudry and Jack Roberson put on 147 for the first wicket.

Redditch eventually rattled off the required runs to reach a winning 205-3 from just 27.3 overs.

Choudry continued his fine form with the bat this season by scoring 81 off 64 balls, while Roberson hit 53.

Russ Southwick then reeled off a quickfire 34 not out while Tom Field fired another 14 which was enough to see Redditch home.

Chairman Daren Field said: “There was always the threat of rain around and it did look a bit ominous at times, but it was a comfortable victory in the end.

“In fact we probably allowed Bredon to get more runs than they should.

“Jamie Munro batted very well early on to make 63 but the last two guys who came in put on 40 runs to get the extra batting point when really we should have got Bredon out for 175 to 180.

“But we’ve reached the stage now where we cannot afford to take our foot off the gas. We go to Worcester Dominies on Saturday which should be a tough test as they bat right down the order.

“But I expect us to stick with the same guys who have got us into this position as we’ve got quite a settled side now.

“We’ve also got quite a decent run-in on paper, because after the Dominies game we play Alvechurch and Hopwood, Wormelow and Bromyard, who are all in the bottom half of the table.”
