REDDITCH’S title hopes in Worcestershire League Division Two suffered another setback as they lost by four wickets to second-placed Chaddesley Corbett.

The leaders saw their points advantage at the top of the table cut to 10 points.

Kingfishers skipper and opener Gregg Chinn (3) won the toss and chose to bat, but was caught by Bilal Hussain off Ikram Mussadaq.

Jack Roberson (63) and Tom Field (77) put on 144 runs for the fourth wicket as Redditch made 224-9 in 50 overs.

Mussadaq (3-28) was Corbett’s top wicket-taker.

But Redditch’s hopes of making early inroads with the ball were dashed as Chaddesley opening batsman Ibrahim Jiva struck 98 runs off 142 balls.

Despite wickets for Waqas Ali (2-60) and Noman Choudry (2-51), Chaddesley made 226-6 in 39 overs.

With Feckenham defeating Worcester Dominies, the top three sides are separated by just 30 points with two promotion places up for grabs.

Redditch, who have suffered back-to-back defeats for the first time this season, take on fourth-placed Coombs Wood at home on Saturday (1pm start).

Meanwhile, defending holders Redditch booked their place in the county over-45s final after defeating Rushwick by six wickets.

Rushwick were kept to 183-5 and the Kingfishers made 184-7 with hitting in reply.

They will face Bewdley or Pershore in the final in Bromsgrove on September 4.

l Redditch will welcome a host of favourites from Warwickshire for the Tim Ambrose benefit at Bromsgrove Road on Friday.

Bears heroes Rikki Clarke, Jeetan Patel and Boyd Rankin are among the Warwickshire regulars set to take on the hosts, while Jonathan Trott and Ian Bell are set to be present.

Before the main event there is an under-19s clash between Redditch and Studley. The gates open at 3pm with the action starting at 4.30pm.
