ALCESTER Bowling Club players proved off target this week when they only managed to obtain a couple of wins.

Their efforts were epitomised when they entertained Austin British Legion B in Northfield League Division Three.

They produced five wins out of eight, with the sixth only going down by one shot.

But that wasn't enough as Alcester went down by just one shot, winning cards coming from Jean Sherrington and Helen McDermott with 21-13, Rick Horton 21-15, Dave Hovell 21-19 and Ken Harvey 21-20.

Alcester's unbeaten run in Division 6 of the South and West Birmingham Over-60's League came to a halt when they visited Solihull B after going down by 11 shots.

The only success was provided by Jean Bannister 21-11, Renny Bannister 21-15 and Ken Craddock 21-19.

But the B team's winning streak in Division 7 shows no sign of coming to a halt as they crushed visitors Henley B by 58 shots.

There were some superb winning cards coming from Geoff Spiers 21-3, David Hodgson 21-5 and Margaret D'Elia 21-6, the trio being backed up by Red Masterson 21-15 and Jean Sherrington 21-16 to give the side a 9-1 points victory.

There was no joy for Alcester A when they visited Henley in Division Two of the Yardley Wood Superleague.

Alcester could only produce two winning cards as they crashed to a hefty 43 shot defeat when only Ken Harvey 21-14 and John Slater 21-20 could provide winning cards.

Things didn't get any better for Alcester A when they took on Stoke Prior in Division 2 of the Heart of England League as they lost out by 36 shots, Brian Lees 21-14 and Dave Hovell 21-20 being the only winners.

Val McDermott produced a brilliant 21-1 card as Alcester B beat Central Edgbaston by 26 shots.

Other winning cards came from David Sutor 21-11, Margaret D'Elia 21-13, Carole Slater 21-14 and David Whittington 21-18.
