ALCESTER gained their first win of the season in the Northfield League Division Three with a 40-shot success over Hockley Heath.
Leading the way with excellent 21-7 cards were Dave Hovell and Trish Barry, with solid support from Val McDermott (21-11), John Alderson and Ken Harvey (both 21-13).
In Division Seven of the South and West Birmingham Over-60s League, the Alcester B team continued their winning ways with a sound 20-shot home win against Ye Olde Knowle D.
For the home side, Jean Craddock was the star with a stunning 21-4 success, while other wins came from David Hodgson and Ken Craddock (both 21-17) ensured a 7-3 overall win Mixed fortunes came Alcester’s way in the Yardley Wood Superleague.
The A team in Division Two completed the double over visitors British Oak B with a huge 71-shot win.
All eight Alcester players produced winning cards, with Ken Craddock (21-9) leading the way.
Dave Hovell and David Whittington (both 21-10), Renny Bannister and Ken Harvey (both 21-11), John Slater (21-13) and Jean Bannister (21-14) did the damage, while Peter Barber staged a great comeback to win 21-19.
In Division Four, the B team went down by 40 shots when they visited Stoke Prior. They did gain nine points, however, with wins for Margaret D’Elia (a tremendous 21-6 card), Val McDermott (21-17) and Trish Barry (21-20). But the day belonged to Stoke who gained 30 points.
The Heart of England Over-60s League brought another defeat in Division One for Alcester’s A team when they visited Black Horse A.
They could only muster a single winning card as they suffered a third straight loss.
