LIAM McDonald says Redditch United are fully focused on their promotion push after they ended a tough week with a 5-1 win at Dorchester.

Saturday's victory ended a three-game winless run and took a step towards sealing a play-off spot in the Southern League Premier.

It was also the perfect way to bounce back from their three point deduction by the league after playing suspended pair Jazz Luckie and Jim Mutton against St Neots in February.

The FA had already punished the club and players with fines and extra bans but the league also only imposed their own sanction last week.

Redditch's title hopes remain remote with leaders Poole enjoying a four-point advantage over second-placed United and have played a game less.

To win automatic promotion to the National North, the Valley Stadium outfit would have to win their last three games against Chippenham, Kettering and Frome and hope their rivals from Dorset slip up.

Poole were set to take on Stratford away tonight, and then tackle Dunstable, Bideford and Cambridge.

While the battle for the play-offs are fierce, with eighth-placed Chippenham still in with a remote chance, two more wins would seal the top five.

McDonald said: "I think we  and the FA were at fault for the points deduction, it was a combination of mistakes.

"I would like to apologise to our players, who have given everything this season and are desperate to do well.

"I know some fans are saying that we don't want to get promoted because of the cost but we're determined to finish higher than we did last year.

"The chairman is ambitious and has backed us all the way this season."

Meanwhile, McDonald was pleased to see his side bounce back from their poor run as they ran riot at Dorchester.

United fell 1-0 down after 19 seconds but Sam Merson, George Carline, Will Richards and Luke Shearer all scored, while Dorchester defender Neil Martin bagged an own goal.

Redditch take on Chippenham at home on Saturday (3pm ko).
