CHARLOTTE Gilmartin set a new personal best in the latest round of the ISU World Cup in Dresden at the weekend.

The Redditch speed skater finished sixth overall in the 500 metre with a new life time best of 43.2 seconds.

This strong performances gives her real confidence going into the sixth world cup event in Dordrecht next weekend.

Overall, Elise Christie lead the way for Team GB with gold in the 1,500m and silver in the 500m.

The ladies team finished fourth in the standings.

GB Short Track’s performance director Stewart Laing said: “This weekend saw some really promising skating from all the British skaters.

"It’s always nice to walk away from the weekend with podium performances, however, looking at the quality of skating across the board the team really stepped up.

"We all head to Dordrecht confident in the improvements being made during racing.”

The skaters now head to Dordrecht in the Netherlands for the sixth World Cup this weekend.

The series will then finish with the World Championships in Seoul, Korea in March.
