REDDITCH United aim to give their Evo-Stik Southern Premier League title hopes a huge boost when they welcome leaders Poole Town to the Valley Stadium on Saturday (3pm kick-off).

The Reds are on a roll after winning their last four games, a run which has put them within touching distance of the table-toppers.

United trail Poole by eight points but have two games in hand and three points at the weekend, followed up by another win over relegation-battling Frome at home on Monday (7.45pm kick-off), would significantly enhance their automatic promotion credentials.

Boss Liam McDonald remained tight-lipped about his team’s hopes of taking the title, but he was pleased by United’s response to their Boxing Day loss to Stratford.

Poole go into the game unbeaten in seven games. However, from a possible 21 points on offer the table-toppers have dropped ten, giving the rest of the league renewed hope of overtaking them during the second half of the season.

He said: “At the start of the season I set a target where I want us to be and I won’t be disclosing what it is because I don’t want to put any more pressure on the lads than there already is.

“But this is a very big game for us on Saturday, a win over the leaders would give us another big lift.

“I think the next five games will define our season but we go into those matches in good form.”

After Poole and Frome, United then travel to King’s Lynn before entertaining both play-off chasing Dunstable and lowly Chesham.

United will be full of confidence after defeating Cambridge City 2-0 away on Saturday, with goals for George Carline and Rob Thompson-Brown.

Redditch followed that up on Monday night by defeating a strong Solihull Moors side 2-1 to book their place in the last eight of the Birmingham Senior Cup.

United had fallen behind to Gavin Cowan’s goal but Carline and Jamey Osborne, who scored with a brilliant individual effort, sealed the turnaround.

McDonald said: “I am very pleased with the Cambridge win, the pitch wasn’t great but the lads played well.

“Solihull then put out a strong side with experienced guys like Danny Lewis and Callum Gittings, but Jamey was the best player on the pitch.”

United will now face Wolverhampton Wanderers in the quarter finals at home with the date yet to be arranged.
