FORMER Tudor Grange Academy pupil Nicola Moss has set her sights on following in her mother’s footsteps and representing GB Women at an Olympics.

The former Redditch Hockey Club member, 18, hopes to play for Team GB at the 2020 games, which are to be held in Tokyo.

She has laid foundations to do so by winning a place in a five-game series in the USA with Britain’s under-21s.

Her inspiration is her mother, Gill Brown, who featured at the Seoul Olympics in 1998.

Her father, Richard Moss, said: “Nicola’s mother has always been sensible and never put any pressure on Nicola.

“But she’s always wanted to follow in her mother’s footsteps.

“She had a special moment before going to America when she was presented with the number three shirt by some senior Great Britain players, which was the same shirt as her mother.”

The teenager from Callow Hill started out at Redditch HC when she was 11.

She then moved to Stourport three years later, where she was part of a team that secured promotion to the Women’s Conference West.

Last summer, when she began her studies at Bristol University, she switched to Clifton, who play in the Women’s Premier.

She has been a regular on the England stage for several years, earning 34 caps playing for the under-16s and 18s.

The hockey ace was also called up to England’s under-18s squad last February, playing in warm-up games against Scotland in Glasgow in June and three games against Belgium in July.

She was also a member of the squad which came third in the European Cup of Nations in Spain last summer.

Then she followed that success up by securing a place in both the England Under-21 squad and the GB Under-21 squad, which are clear stepping stones towards winning recognition in the the 2020 Olympic squad.

“Hockey will continue to be an integral part of Nicola’s life alongside her education and her goal is to win a place in the Olympic Squad for 2020 or beyond,” added her father.
