ALVECHURCH manager Ian Long is hoping that the wet weather won't disrupt their impressive campaign.

The Church saw Saturday's clash at home to Rocester and Monday's President's Cup clash at Coventry Sphinx called off because of waterlogged pitches.

The Lye Meadow outfit are hoping this weekend's Midlands Premier clash at Stourport Swifts goes ahead.

Church are nine unbeaten in all competitions but with forecasts suggesting it will rain all week, Long is concerned another game might be called off.

He said: "You don't want games called off because it's disruptive and means you have more games to play later.

"It's something we are used to from our time at Tividale.

"Stourport play by the River Severn so there's a danger that game could be off too.

"But we'll make sure we prepare as if the game is on.

"All we can do if games are off is to make sure we train really well and stay sharp."

Alvechurch were set for gym sessions on Tuesday night and have also booked in a training slot at Studley FC's all weather pitch on Thurday night.

Alvechurch will be hoping to have injured duo Sam Williams and Dave Bellis back from injury for Saturday's Worcestershire derby (3pm ko).

Long then takes his team to Westfields next Tuesday (7.45pm ko).

While Alvechurch did not play, the gap between them and second-placed Heanor became two points after they were surprisingly held 5-5 by Brocton.

Church have three games in hand on Heanor and four on leaders Hereford, who boast a nine-point advantage over Long's troops.
