LIAM McDonald was pleased with a battling point after Redditch United’s goalless draw at Hungerford on Monday night.

The Reds extended their unbeaten run in the Southern League Premier to seven games in Berkshire.

McDonald was satisfied with the character his side demonstrated although he felt they could have returned to Worcestershire with all three points.

He said: “We’ve gone to one of the teams in the top five and got a draw and I know the fans who went to the game were pleased with it.

“I thought the the performance was very good. Hungerford is not an easy ground to go to but we were strong all over.

“We could have won the game because Ashley Sammons had a great chance late on but to be fair, their keeper made a very good save.”

McDonald was also full of praise for 20-year-old centre back Jim Mutton, who has forged an impressive partnership with Will Richards.

Redditch boast one of the tightest defences in the division and have conceded just two goals in the last seven games.

“Jim Mutton has a very big future ahead of him,” said the United manager.

“There are not many lads his age who have played a 100 games.

“He will attract the attention of a lot of clubs but he’s really profiting from playing alongside Will, who really is one of the best defenders in the league.”

United are hoping to have some of their injured players back soon.

Jamey Osborne may have a chance of playing in Saturday’s home game against Biggleswade (3pm ko). The midfielder dislocated his shoulder three weeks ago.

Simeon Maye is on loan at Boldmere St Michaels while Robbie Bunn is at Littleton as the pair look to get some game time after recovering from knocks.
