Hungerford Town 0, Redditch United 0

Redditch stretched their unbeaten league run to seven games with this battling display at fellow promotion hopefuls Hungerford.

Torrential rain made life tricky for both sides bit there was no shortage of chances, particularly in the second half.

Ashley Sammons was the main goal threat for the visitors before the break with three efforts from outside the area, the best of which came on 24 minutes and was just a few inches too high.

At the other end, Jamie Clark tried his luck from range but his shot was easily gathered by Jose Veiga.

It was Hungerford who started the second half the stronger and should have opened the scoring when Stefan Brown forced his way into the area only for his shot to be saved at the foot of the post by the Reds keeper.

And their best chance came on 71 minutes when an excellent ball from the right picked out the unmarked Nat Jarvis but he headed wide from six yards.

The remainder of the half was real end-to-end stuff with both sides pushing for the winner.

Home keeper Paul Strudley did well to keep out a Sammons shot low to his right and then somehow managed to keep out another effort from the midfielder six minutes from time after he had been put in on goal by a slick Jamie Molyneux pass.

Veiga was also in good form and made another important save moments later, this time from Hungerford substitute Mark Draycott.

Late penalty appeals after a trip on United’s tireless striker Luke Shearer went unheeded and United had to settle for a share of the points.
