THE Valley Stadium is set for more exciting football on Monday night, when it hosts Redditch United Schools Cup.

Last year’s beaten finalists Woodfield Academy will take on Woodrush High School in the year eight competition (6.30pm ko).

If Redditch United are held to a draw in the FA Trophy by Evesham, the match would be postponed for 24 hours.

The event has become a popular occasion, well-supported by enthusiastic pupils and parents.

The Schools Cup was first organised in 2010 by TRUST (Redditch United Supporters Club) in liaison with the Reds and Redditch Sports Partnership.

It was intended to further strengthen the club’s links with the community, which United chairman Chris Swan and wife Sallie the driving force behind it.

Year eight teams from the middle schools play each other in two leagues, with play-offs to decide who goes through to the final.

Walkwood won the inaugural final and have clinched the cup three times, while St Bede’s and Ipsley have won once.
