Redditch United 1 - 1 Aylesbury Utd (Aylesbury won 4-3 on pens)

Redditch might be flying in the league but once again they failed to replicate their impressive record in the knockout competitions as lost out to visitors Aylesbury in the Red Insure Cup.

Drawing 1-1 at the end of the game, the tie went to penalties and it was the Berkshire side who booked their place in the next round thanks to a heroic display from keeper Alex Tokfroczyk.

Not only did he pull off saves in the shootout to deny Reds skipper Danny Dubidat and midfielder Jamie Ashmore, he then went and scored the decisive spot kick to clinch the win, powering his effort beyond Josh Moreton in the Redditch goal.

Such drama looked unlikely early on with the home side dominating the first period only for some wayward finishing to let them down.

The pick of the early chances fell to Jamey Osborne on 18 minutes but his curling free-kick from 25 yards landed in the arms of Tokfroczyk.

The reds continued to press and were finally rewarded three minutes before the break. A delightful pass from George Carline fed Luke Shearer and he made no mistake from close range.

Aylesbury substitute Jake Bewley levelled the scores with his first touch of the game on the hour, finding the net with a blistering 30-yard drive that gave Reds goalkeeper Moreton no chance.

Dubidat had a good chance to restore his side’s lead soon after but volleyed over from in front of goal and they were given an extra boost when the visitors were reduced to ten men on 75 minutes, defender John Mulholland paying the price for picking up a second booking for his trip on Shearer.

But Aylesbury stood firm to force the tie to penalties and for Tokfroczyk ro seal the win.
