THE week’s crown green bowling action started for Alcester when they entertained Romsley and Hunnington in a Northfield League Division Three match.

With excellent wins from Ken Harvey (21-4) and Jean Bannister (21-6), backed up by Renny Bannister (21-11) and John Alderson (21-14), Alcester gained a 29-shot victory and six points.

Both Alcester teams once again had wins in Division Seven of the S&W Birmingham Over-60s League.

The A team hosted Triplex, their close rivals at the top of the table.

With winning cards from David Whittington (21-11), John Slater (21-16), Ken Harvey and Jean Bannister (both 21-18) and Margaret D’Elia (21-19), Alcester ran out winners by 20 shots. The nine points thus gained keeps them in top spot in the Division.

The B team visited Henley B and recorded where a close fought game resulted in a seven-shot success for the visitors. Alcester had only two winning cards, with success for Eric Allport and Ken Craddock.

A little of the gloom in the Yardley Wood League was lifted by a narrow home win for the A side when they entertained Wythall A in Division One.

Alcester won by a mere eight shots, but with five winning cards they picked up seven points to lift them off the bottom of the table. The wins came from Renny Bannister (21-7), John Alderson (21-8), Ken Craddock (21-19) and Ken Harvey and John Slater (both 21-20).

In Division Three, Alcester slumped to a home defeat by Henley B in a re-arranged game and had just three winners in Margaret D’Elia (21-8), Eric Allport (21-11) and David Whittington (21-16) as they went down by 28 shots.

Two days later they visited Henley for the return match, this time suffering a 36-shot defeat. Only David Hodgson (21-12) and Margaret D’Elia (21-15) could produce winning cards.

In Division Four of the Heart of England League, the B team entertained table-toppers Warstock.

They were unable to avenge the defeat of the previous week and went down by 33 shots. Only David Hodgson (21-15), Val McDermott (21-16) and David Whittington (21-17) were able to provide wins.

In the Over-60s section of the Heart of England League, Alcester’s B team travelled to second-placed Colebrook B for a Division Five match.

They gained a very creditable 25-shot win due to successes for Ken Craddock and Margaret D’Elia (both 21-10) and John Willis and Ken Harvey (both 21-14).
