LIAM McDonald believes his side’s first victories of the season will only spur them on in the Southern League Premier.

Redditch United ended a four-game run of draws on Saturday with a 2-1 win at Dunstable.

The Reds followed that up with a stirring second-half comeback at home to Stratford as they saw off their West Midlands rivals 3-2.

Daniel Dubidat got off the mark with with two goals in each game and he’ll be eyeing up more when Redditch go to his former club Bedworth United in the league on Saturday (3pm ko).

United had been trailing 2-1 to Stratford at half-time after former Reds wideman Edwin Ahenkorah struck twice, but they rallied followed a rollicking from the manager at the break.

McDonald said: “I am not the sort of manager to lose by temper and shout at players but I had been disappointed by our tempo and wanted a much-improved performance.

“We got that in the second half and I was pleased for Daniel, who showed how capable he is of scoring goals at this level.

“We’re not the finished article at the moment but if the lads keep plugging away then we’ll get where we need to go.”

United are now 13th in the table after seven games but are unbeaten in six matches after four draws and two wins.

They now face a trip to newly-promoted Bedworth, who drew 0-0 at Leamington on Monday but have picked up just two points as they struggle to find their feet at this level.

Redditch signed Dubidat and defender Jamie Ashmore during the close season.

Will Richards is set to be fit after shaking off an injury and is expected to come back into the side.

McDonald said: “Bedworth have a good playing surface and we’re looking forward to the game.

“If we win there, that would be seven games unbeaten and three wins in a row, which would be a solid start to the season.

“Our success over the last two seasons has raised expectations and we have to deal with that.

“The league is a tough one but all the players are settling in and they’re all sticking together.”
