IAN LONG says there is still lots of improvement left in his Alvechurch side following Saturday’s impressive 4-1 win at Dunkirk.

Goals from Josh March, an own goal and Rich Huckfield effectively wrapped up the points after 19 minutes with Danny Ashton adding a fourth near the end.

Ahead of Tuesday’s trip to Lye Town, Long said: It was a lot better but I think there is more to come.

“We had a really good spell in the first half. It was then a case of not doing anything silly or taking our foot off the gas and then managed the game well from that point. It was a good away win but I still think it will be a few more games before we're firing on all cylinders.”

Church turn their attention to an FA Cup trip to Stourport Swifts on Saturday and then on Monday to a home clash with league leaders Highgate United. Both are unbeaten with Swifts lying second in the Midland Premier Division.

“It’s a concern that Highgate don’t play on Saturday because they are not in the FA Cup but these three fixtures will give us a good idea of where we are.

Mike Wardle injured his ankle against Dunkirk, central defender Mike Smith faces a lengthy lay-off with an abdominal injury while striker Micky Turton is also doubtful.

“It’s a concern Mike has done well for us at right back, he gets forward and has lots of energy and it was his ball which led to the own goal on Saturday.

“He got injured early in the game and when he sent me a picture of his ankle later it was like a balloon, I’m not sure how he finished the game.

“We have a good squad,” added Long. “Luke Paskin who was player of the year for us last year at Tividale is on his way back and it’s an opportunity for some of the other lads to get play. We’ll probably make full use of the squad at the weekend.

“We want to progress in the cup – it’s important for us financially with the money involved.”

l Studley slipped to a heavy 8-2 defeat at Hinckley AFC on Saturday.

Marco Adaggio and Luke Richards scored hat-tricks for the Leicestershire side with consolations coming from Lewis Fathers and substitute Andrew Millan.

Kevin Kingham’s side were due to play Southam United at home last night, then on Saturday entertain Atherstone Town before The Beehive hosts a third game in a week against Cadbury Athletic on Monday.
