TEENAGE BMX starlet Libby Smith can look back on another fantastic season after clinching silverware and competing on the international stage.

Smith, 13, has been crowned national champion in her age section once again after more success at the British BMX series over the last six months.

She clinched the title with two rounds to spare at Peckham, where a third-place finish confirmed top spot.

Libby had consistently finished in the top three, picking up several wins in the process to take her second national title.

The youngster’s sparkling form saw her selected by Team GB for the UCL World Cup, which was staged at the Zolder race track in Belgium.

The youngster, who is a member of Redditch Premier BMX club, was in excellent form in the preliminary round and quarter-finals, but suffered bad fortune in the semi-finals when she hit the starting gate and dropped to the back.

Overall, she finished 13th in the girls 13-year-old age section, having previously finished seventh two years ago.

It was an impressive comeback by youngster Libby, who suffered a series of injuries while competing in 2014, including a broken arm and collarbone.

Father Scott Smith said: “Libby has learned a lot from those injuries, she was pushing herself very hard but she knows when not to try the big jumps because of the wind.

“She’s been in good form and is already national champion and was unlucky at the worlds.”

The gifted youngster is also awaiting to her if she will be included on an Olympic development programme, which would see her get free coaching and attend training camps.

She completes the Nationals in Perry Barr, Birmingham, this weekend.
