CAPTAIN Luke Davis is hoping that Saturday's 12 run win over fellow relegation battlers Oldswinford and Stourbridge will provide the boost Redditch need.

The Kingfishers moved out of the drop zone with just their second win of the season and ended a five-game losing streak.

With just under half the season to go, Redditch need to move up the table to ease their worries about dropping down a division.

Davis won the toss and opted to bat and for the time this season they posted a formidable score of 261-7 in 50 overs.

Jack Roberson was in excellent form and he top scored with a well-crafted 89.

Perry Derrick (51) and Russell Southwick (37) also made good contributions.

But Oldswinford looked in good knick and got their reply off to a decent start, reaching 111-3.

Redditch's bowlers kept the pressure on but were frustrated by Lee Nightingale but once he was ran out by Sam Egan, Oldswinford started to lose wickets at regular intervals.

In the end, Redditch bowled out their opponents for 249, with Waqas Ali (2-54), Ghulam Moyhuddin (3-32) and Thomas Phelan (2-35) all sharing wickets.

Davis said: "The game was close and I thought that at one stage Oldswinford would win the game but it makes a big difference if we can post a decent score.

"Jack Roberson's 89 made a huge difference and it allowed our bowlers, who have been playing well, to keep persevering.

"Hopefully this will give is a bit of confidence for the rest of the season."

Derrick is set to miss Saturday's trip to third-placed Droitwich but Greg Chinn is available again.
