CAPTAIN Luke Davis believes Redditch can shake off their poor run of results and move up the Worcestershire League Division One.

The Kingfishers are fourth from bottom as they near the halfway stage of the summer, with just two wins out of nine.

Davis has pinpointed the problem area which has affected them all season is a lack of runs.

There’s no doubting that the likes of Russell Southwick and the captain can score runs and Davis is predicting they will come soon.

He said: “We’ve been bowling well but scoring runs have been a problem.

“It’s not even that we’re not playing well with the bat, but just that we’re not getting big enough totals.

“I do think there are some encouraging signs and if we can get some luck as well, then we can look forward to a better second half of the season.”

On Saturday, Redditch suffered defeat in a rain-affected game.

After losing the toss, they were put into bat and made 189-8 in 41 overs.

The top-order batsmen had made a promising start, with Rizwan Mohammad Choudry (35), Jack Roberson (47), Russell Southwick (39) and Perry Derrick (38) getting among the runs.

However, the rest of Redditch’s batting order failed to capitalise.

After more rain, Hagley had a revised total and made 123-5 in 18 overs, despite one wicket each for Joe Scarcella, Waqas Ali and Perry Derrick and two for Choudry.

Redditch take on mid-table Colwall at home on Saturday (1pm ko).

l Meanwhile in Division Two, Feckenham got the better of third-placed Worcester Dominies and Guild by 119 runs.

The Millers won the toss and elected to bat first.

They lost opening batsmen Muhammed Idrees (4) and Dan Bloomer (0) early on but 82 from Jamie Griffiths steadied the ship.

Sam Cox (64) and Tom Coulson (61) then added runs late on as Feckenham made a healthy 299-7.

Neil Evans (4-37), Coulson (2-29) and Samuel Cox (2-58) took wickets as Worcester were dismissed for 180.

Feckenham are at home to Wormelow on Saturday (1pm start).

l Alvechurch and Hopwood saw their Division Three game against Chaddesley Corbett abandoned because of rain.

They travel to Rushwick on Saturday.

l In Warwickshire Division One, Studley's game against Highway was abandoned because of rain.

The Bees had made 119-2 when the heavens opened. They go to Knowle Village on Saturday.
