LIAM McDonald believes he's got his strongest squad at Redditch United since taking the reins two years ago.

The Reds boss bolstered his midfield last week when he signed Banbury's Jack Westbrook.

He follows hot on the heels with the likes of Daniel Dubidat, Jamie Ashmore, Will Richards, Kyle Morrison, Kieran Preston and Robbie Bunn all joining.

United have also retained many of the squad who did so well last season, although they did lose Ashley Sammons to Corby and goalkeeper Sam Hornby to Burton Albion.

United head into the 2015-16 season in the Southern League Premier on the crest of a wave after last year's sixth place finish, but the manager was quick to point out his side face a tough campaign.

He said: "This is the strongest squad of players I have had since taking over as manager but I also think this will be the toughest league as well.

"At the moment I have 15 players who I 100 per cent know will be here and I am also looking to sign one or two more.

"We will have guys in on trial as well as players from the reserves and youth team I will be looking at.

"I believe we're ahead of schedule, I didn't expect us to be some so far ahead after just two years but we must make sure we build slowly and steadily."

Westbrook will provide extra competition in central midfield.

McDonald added: "Jack has a great engine and he reminds me of Liam Spink, because he works very hard, likes to make a tackle and keeps us ticking over."

So far central defender Jim Mutton, Richards, Jamie Molyneux and George Carline have all signed one-year deals as the club tries to have more security over their prize assets.

Meanwhile, training set to start next week, with the first pre-season game at Pershore Town on Saturday, July 11.
