REDDITCH fighter Andy Robinson secured the vacant Midland Area super middleweight crown with a ninth round stoppage of Prince Davis.

The men went toe-to-toe for the title at Wolverhampton Civic Hall tonight in front of a packed crowd.

D'Animal's power finally told as the contest drew on.

However, it was his opponent that had the better of things early on.

Davies soon settled down and by round three was working well behind his jab and beating Robinson to the punch on more than one occasion.

The Redditch man came firing back in the next and hurt Davis with an uppercut before a host of clubbing shots saw him end the round well.

By the sixth Davis had stopped being able to get in and out without getting caught. He began to look tired and Robinson's evident greater power started to take its toll.

But Davis rallied and after the cleaner work in the eighth may have just been ahead on the scorecard.

Robinson, needing to find a response, came up with goods to take home the title.

He unleashed a shuddering right to send Davis to the canvas. Despite his opponent getting to his feet, D'Animal soon pounced to unleash a flurry of combinations and leave the ref no choice but to step in and call a halt to the contest after one minute and 55 seconds of the ninth.

Overall, it proved a thrilling match-up, but Robinson's knockout power made sure he came out on top
