ALCESTER were edged out by King George B in the Northfield League Division Three.

While the home side had wins from John Alderson (superb at 21-6), Ken Harvey (21-9), Jean Bannister (21-11) and Dave Hovell (21-20), they had to give the visitors best by 11 shots, thus accruing just four points.

The A team continued their formidable start in the S&W Birmingham Over-60s League with a shattering 90-shot win over visitors Ye Olde Knowle D in Division Seven.

For the third time in a row, Alcester produced a whitewash, with five out of the six players recording wins to single figures.

Jean Bannister and Margaret D’Elia (both 21-2), Ken Harvey (21-4), David Whittington (21-5), Renny Bannister (21-7) and Val McDermott (21-16) demolished the opposition to record what is thought to be the club’s biggest-ever win, and earn 10 league points.

The B team travelled to West Midlands Transport to take on their B side, but lost by 28 shots.

In round one of the S&W Birmingham Over-60s Cup, both Alcester teams lost, with the A team going down by 38 points to Rubery and the B side losing to King George V.

In the Yardley Wood League, Alcester A went down to Maggies A, despite wins for Dace Hovell and Renny Bannister, but the B team saw off Hockley Heath by 17 shots.

Alcester A lost heavily to Woodbourne A in the Heart of England League.

In Division Four, Alcester B comfortably defeated Wythall B.
