REDDITCH fighters Leo Fanthome and Richard Bennett represented Redditch Community Amateur Boxing Club at Willenhall Social Club during a night showcasing some of the best and brightest talent from around the Midlands.

Schoolboy Fanthome, 16, utilised an impressive combination of precision, flurries of punches and well-placed footwork to outscore his opponent from George Bolton Amateur Boxing Club over three rounds, keeping his opponent on the back foot and setting a fast and furious pace Leo secured a unanimous win.

Not to be outdone Bennet, 24, surged forward in his 85kg bout and took control of the ring over his heavier opponent .

While his strong opponent from Willenhall ABC refused to back down Bennet’s devastating body shots and impressive right hands proved to be too much for his opponent to take.

After a crushing blow to the body followed by a stunning right hand to the head, Bennet’s opponent was forced to take a standing eight count before the referee declared Bennet the winner by technical knock out.

Coach Sarah Lee said: “I am very proud of all the hard work that the lads have both put in and that even when faced with good opposition they were totally unfazed and deserved the wins. As a club we are looking forward to many more successful bouts with Leo and Rich.”

The duo will represent the club again at the end of May in Evesham, so come on out and support your local athletes.

Redditch Community Amateur Boxing Club would like to extend their congratulations to Matthew Rogers and Darren Long for completing their level one England Boxing coaching certification.

With an excellent team of coaches the club is going from strength to strength and we are looking forward to many more successes.
