ALVECHURCH manager Lee Knight is hoping to remain as boss at Lye Meadow for next season.

Knight took the reins in January after Lee Adams departed and has been in talks with chairman Richard Thorndike about staying on for next season.

Since taking over, Church have tightened up at the back and been harder to beat, although the manager has prioritised trying to find a regular goalscorer for next season.

“I have spoken to the chairman next season and he’s keen for me to stay on," said Knight.

“Kim Case and I want to be at the club next season and it would be a big honour for us to be in charge next season.

“The chairman can see there has been a gradual improvement this season and he wants us to build on that.

“It’s not signed and sealed but it’s looking good.”

Church suffered a tough weekend with two defeats in the Midlands Football Premier.

On Saturday, they were shot down 4-2 by bottom side Tipton Town, inspired by a brace for striker Gurjit Singh – who has signed non-contract deal to play for Kidderminster Harriers next season.

Alvechurch were edged out 1-0 by Coventry Sphinx on Bank Holiday Monday.

The manager added: “We didn’t overreact to the Tipton defeat because the defence has been very good and Singh was the difference.

“My big problem is the lack of goals.

"I sound like I am repeating myself but we’re having to create five chances to score.”

Alvechurch take on Wolverhampton Sporting tomorrow night in the quarter-finals of the JW Hunt Cup.

“This is the biggest game of the season,” continued the Church boss.

“A win in the cup would take us a step towards some silverware and keeps our season alive.”

In the league, Alvechurch go to Coleshill on Saturday (3pm ko).
