LIAM McDonald has called on the fans to descend on the Valley Stadium to watch Redditch United tackle Truro in what could be a season-defining game.

The Reds are still in the hunt for the play-off spots in the Southern League Premier and their promotion credentials will be tested by the visitors, who are third in the table.

After Saturday's draw, United are seventh in the table after Saturday's 1-1 draw at Histon, which saw Clayton McDonald head them into the lead.

The manager said: "It's been an incredible season whatever happens on Saturday.

"I am so proud of my players, they have given everything and have been brilliant.

"If you look at George Carline, they have stepped up from the fifth tier of non-league and played nearly 50 games at a higher level.

"Truro is a huge game for us, there's no hiding it, and we'll be going out to win the game.

"I hope all of our fans come out to support us. We had a big crowd for Corby and the players were disappointed to lose.

"But the players are desperate to do well for the fans."

After Truro, United also entertain relegation battling Banbury on Monday (3pm ko).

Meanwhile, McDonald handed a debut to new striker Mor Serigne Diop, who joined from Gloucester City.

The striker had previously played in Belgium, Greek and Israel.

Redditch were also relieved to see defender Clayton remain at United after Kidderminster Harriers were interested in signing the former Walsall and Port Vale centre back.

McDonald said: "We are glad that Clayton is staying here but I was disappointed with Harriers.

"I have a good relationship with Clayton and we want the best for him, which is playing for Redditch United.

"At the end of the season, he's free to do what he wants but at the moment he's happy at Redditch."
