DROITWICH Spa took a huge step towards safety in the Midlands Division Two as they blitzed bottom side Kenilworth KH 6-0.

A hat-trick for James Lemon, a double for Nick Seabourne and one for Macauley Finch saw Spa record one of their biggest wins of the season in Warwickshire.

The three points means Droitwich have a 12 point lead over second from bottom Kenilworth.

With nine games of the season left, Spa can seal their place in the same competition with a win over Kenilworth, who visit King George's Playing Fields this weekend (3pm ko).

Spa have enjoyed one of their best season's ever under the stewardship of Mark Owen and Wayne Oliver.

The pair took over after six games, when Droitwich were rock bottom, had no points and conceded 23 goals. Since then, they have picked up 25 points from 16 league games.

Saturday's win in Warwickshire was also watched by a travelling contingent of Droitwich fans and Oliver thanked them for their commitment.

Oliver said: "Mark and I just wanted to come in and make sure that players treated playing for the club more seriously.

"We didn't want players turning up at 2.45pm for a game and we like to think we've made a difference.

"If you took the first six games out of the picture, we'd be in contention for third place.

"The likes of James Lemon, Macauley Finch and James Wards have all done brilliantly but we certainly wouldn't stand in their way if they wanted to leave."

He added: "We made a few changes against Kenilworth and it worked really well.

"We can't finish bottom and a win over Kenilworth on Saturday I think will make us safe."
