Rugby Welsh 10 Alcester 52

SCINTILLATING performances from man-of-the-match Ryan Clark and veteran scrum half Robbie Parker inspired to another big league win and maintained Alcester’ status at the top of the league table.

The King’s Coughton side made a fine start, when Andy Conway rose highest and was then unstoppable as he went over to score the first try of the game.

Winger Alex Chiles was next on the score sheet with a fine finish which was converted by Martin Gurr.

To their credit, the home side dusted themselves down and clawed their way back into the game, with a first half penalty after taking the upper hand up front.

With the game at 12-3, Alcester lost two of their star performers when Conway went off with a nasty-looking leg injury, soon followed to the touch line by flanker Ben Hope who suffered a rib injury.

Jamie Clarke and Josh Eborall came on and the visitors refused to allow the injuries disrupt them and winger Clark scored the first of his three tries to give his team a 17-3 lead at the interval.

Rugby hit back and bagged a deserved try to reduce the deficit to 17-10 but Alcester roared back with gusto when substitute scrum half Robbie Parker ran in a quick fire hat-trick, while winger Clark ran in two more to complete his hat-trick which won him the man-of-the-match award.

Full back Tom Pedley put in his best performance of the season so far, flawless under the high ball and always a threat on the counter attack.

Fly half Gurr was successful with all five of his second half conversions to complete the scoring and to push his team beyond the 50 point mark.

Meanwhile, the seconds got the better of Bournville 44-3 to record one of their biggest wins of the season.

The under-16s also saw off Woodrush 31-22.
