ALVECHURCH manager Lee Knight wants his players to build on their excellent 2-1 win over title-chasers Basford.

Mid-table Church completed an unlikely double in the Midlands Premier, toppling them off the top of table in the process.

They had been trailing to a first half penalty but roared back in the second period.

Reis Woolley's trickery won a penalty in the 81st minute, which Connor Deards despatched, before substitute Daniel Williams finished off Jordan Cullinane-Liburd's long throw in.

It was Alvechurch's first win since January 17, which was coincidentally Knight's first game in charge against Basford.

The manager said: "Basford are a very good side and I think they will win the league but I thought we deserved to win.

"We defended very well and even though they scored first, I thought we contained them.

"We had a few chances in the first half which we didn't take but we kept playing and got our rewards.

"I threw on Reis Woolley and Daniel Williams and it was great to see them both make an impact."

Alvechurch arfe set to play Long Eaton at home tomorrow night, then tackle mid-table rivals Shepshed Dynamo on Saturday (3pm ko).

Knight added: "We have added a few players and worked hard in training and that is all paying off.

"I want this result to be a marker for the rest of the season because it means little unless we build on it."
