Redditch United 4, Slough Town 0

A dazzling second half display steered Redditch to a comfortable victory against a Slough side grateful to see the back of their Valley Stadium opponents.

The Reds romped to a 7-1 win back in October with Ashley Sammons helping himself to a hat-trick. And the United skipper was again at the heart of a convincing victory in spite of the efforts of Slough’s Tom Moran to ‘man mark’ him.

The tactic looked to be working in the early stages as Slough started the better with Scott Harris and Ed Smith forcing Reds keeper Sam Hornby into saves.

But as the half went on, the home side began to win the midfield battles and they nosed ahead on 34 minutes when George Carline slotted past Luke Williams after the keeper failed to hold on to a Courtney Baker-Richardson shot.

There may have been little to choose between the sides in the first half but the second period belonged to Liam McDonald’s team thanks to them doubling their lead inside a minute., Baker-Richardson netting from six yards after some slick passing had opened up the Slough defence.

From then on it was one-way traffic. Carline and Liam Spink were excellent but it was fellow midfielder Calvin Dinsey who took charge with a series of driving runs and incisive passes.

He was involved as the Reds made it 3-0 on 55 minutes, Sammons breaking clear of his disheartened marker before clipping the ball past Williams.

And when Simeon Maye started and finished a move for a fourth on the hour, it looked as though another seven-goal drubbing was on the cards.

Sammons went close soon after with an effort that forced Williams into a full-length save and the Slough keeper pulled off another excellent stop to keep out a point-blank header from Clayton McDonald, who had had an earlier effort disallowed for a push.

Winger Jamie Molyneux came off the bench late on for his first appearance since breaking his leg at the start of the season and had a glorious chance to complete the scoring three minutes from time. Tripped inside the box by Slough skipper Ryan Fraser, he picked himself up to take the penalty only to put the kick wide of the target.
