THE manager behind boxer Andrew Robinson believes the fighter is set for big things in the middleweight division.

The 30-year-old, nicknamed D’Animal, made a comfortable step down from super-middleweight by outpointing Christian Hoskins-Gomez 60-54 at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall on Saturday night.

It was Redditch fighter’s 14th professional win out of 15 fights, as he bounced back from defeat to Frank Buglioni.

But promoter and manager PJ Rowson believes Robinson’s future lies in the middleweight division.

He said: “Andy made his weight for the Frank Buglioni fight two weeks before the bout, which tells me that he could drop even more weight in time.

“If you looked at that fight, Andy looked tiny compared to Frank but he battled very hard and went all ten rounds.

“But if he drops down a division he will be the big man and that will make a difference.

“We are organising another fight to see how he’s adjusting but I do expect big things from him.

“He will be vying for titles and I think it will be at higher than at regional level.”

Robinson produced a controlled display against his Plymouth-based opponent, who had been training for another fight which had been cancelled.

Rowson added: “It was a tougher test for Andy than we let on and Christian was very eager and believed he could win.

“But Andy’s attitude was excellent and he was in control throughout.”

Robinson’s next fight is set to be staged at the Venue in Dudley on March 27 against a yet unnamed opponent.

“I must praise Christian, who was very, very brave,” added Robinson.

“He had obviously studied my style and tried to expose any weaknesses but in the end he took an awful lot of punishment.”
