ALVECHURCH manager Lee Knight is certain he’s got the squad to cope with a busy end to the season.

The Lye Meadow outfit bolstered their options at the back by bringing in centre back Toby Checketts from local rivals Studley, while goalkeeper Paul Hewitt joined from Highgate United to compete with Sean Edwards.

Knight is still without midfielder Michael McGrath, who is halfway through a month-long holiday, but also has Craig Thomas fully fit.

He said: “I have 20 players now and cover in defence which is very important.

“Toby is a ball-playing defender and we’re delighted to get him, while Brendan Kelly is available for midweek.

“We’ve had some really good training sessions with Kim Casey and I feel that we’re all looking forward to ending the season well.”

The Alvechurch boss is also waiting to see if midfielder Jack Cresswell moves to Littleton, who put in a seven-day request to talk to the midfielder .

Alvechurch also made an approach for Bromsgrove Sporting right-back Danny Morris, but he decided to stay at the Victoria Ground.

Knight said: “I only want players at the club who want to be here.

“If I am interested in a player, then I will put in the seven days and also talk to the manager to see if they are available.

“We waived the seven days for Dan Carter and Joe Adams when they went to Bromsgrove Sporting.

“Jack’s only just come back from a spell away and we’ll see what happens there.”

In a further boost for Church, striker Andy Nicol is available for selection again after a chance in his work circumstances.

Alvechurch had a free weekend after their game against Heath Hayes was postponed because of a frozen pitch.

They drew 1-1 against Westfelds on Tuesday night, with Andy Nicol scoring.

Church will entertain Malvern in the semi-finals of the Worcestershire Senior Urn tomorrow tonight (7.45pm ko).

They have a free weekend and then go to Continental Star next Wednesday.

  • Studley entertain Uttoxeter in the Midlands Football League Division One on Saturday (3pm ko).

The Bees have not played since January 24 and Saturday’s game at Pershore was postponed because of a frozen pitch.
