REDDITCH were no match for Midlands Division Four West (South) leaders Rugby Lions as they succumbed to a 59-3 defeat at Bromsgrove Road on Saturday.

The Kingfishers had no answer to the division’s runaway leaders, who stretched their unbeaten record in all competition to 20 games.

Hard work by Redditch’s ground staff ensured the game went ahead.

The Kingfishers have also been strong at home having only suffered defeats to Kings Norton and Evesham early on in the season.

But their five-game winning run in league and cup at Bromsgrove Road was ended by a very strong Rugby side.

Their opponents had taken the game seriously and were handed the advantage after a strong first half as they scored five tries, with Jamie Mapletoft converting three.

Trailing 31-3 at the break, Redditch continued to battle away but their opponents showed clinical finishing as they ran in four converted touch downs.

Redditch though will be eager to bounce back when they go to mid-table rivals Stoke Old Boys.

Stoke are level on points with Redditch but are one place higher, so victory would move them up the table.

They are still waiting for their first away win in the league this season, while Stoke’s previous home game was a defeat to Five Ways.
