Corby Town 0, Redditch United 0

Redditch’s impressive unbeaten league run continued with this battling display at fellow Southern League Premier high-fliers Corby.

And while the game lacked goals, there was no shortage of chances with United keeper Sam Hornby and opposite number Paul Walker forced into a number of key saves.

The home side had the better of the opening exchanges and could have gone ahead on eight minutes when Greg Mills let fly with a shot that beat the keeper only to be cleared off the line by Calum Flanagan.

The United defender also took the sting off a Wilson Carvalho effort soon after while Elliott Chamberlain’s ‘goal’ just before the break was chalked off for offside.

The Reds also had chances late in the half with Liam Spink going close to finishing off a fine sweeping move down the right only for Walker to deny him.

And in first half injury time, Ashley Sammons whipped a trademark 25-yard effort goalwards only to be denied by an excellent save at the foot of the post.

It was Hornby’s turn to excel six minutes into the second half when he pulled off a fine reflex save to keep out a Ben Milnes header after a long throw-in had threatened to unlock the visitors’ defence.

Giant Corby defender Paul Malone then managed to lift a shot over the target from six yards before Chamberlain fired one straight at Hornby.

Having been under the cosh for much of the half, the Reds nearly broke the deadlock 15 minutes from time when Jamie Spencer sent Sammons free but his shot was smothered by keeper Walker.

There was drama in the final seconds when the home side had a penalty appeal turned down after Jordan Jones appeared to wrestle Mills to the floor but referee Guy Stretton waved play on.

The draw, made all the more impressive as the Reds were without Simeon Maye, Jermaine Hylton and new signing Calvin Dinsley, means United are now eight games unbeaten in the league going into back-to-back home games with Burnham (Saturday) and Hungerford Town (Monday).
